This weekend Cromwell is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the discovery of gold at Brewery Creek, Cromwell Gorge.
Here in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct (formerly Old Cromwell Town Historic Precinct) there will be a ‘Heritage Day Out’ from 11am until 3pm on Sunday, July 8th, 2012.
Please come out to visit the shops and stall holders featured on this exciting day remembering our wee town’s heritage!
Cromwell Heritage Precinct – Open 7 days to the Public – Cafes, Galleries, Shops
As the weather turns, so does the vibe in the precinct. Many shops adjust their hours to suit the change in the level of foot traffic, and to avoid high power bills to keep the old, schist walls warm!
Please contact your favourite retailer prior to visiting just to make sure they will be open when you arrive. The Grain and Seed Cafe will always be open, 7 days, so at least if you miss your shopping fix, you can still get your daily dose of caffeine.
Happy Winter Days
The Old Cromwell Easter Market was a success in its second year with the Chocolate Egg Hunt the main attraction. Over 200 eggs were hidden in the chilly hours of the morning for many eager wee hands to find.
In the Upper Precinct, there was a joint Craft and Farmers’ Market featuring many popular stalls, as well as some new-commers like a book binder and a wee girl who makes “goo” (popular among the kids of course)
Thank you to all of those who supported the market this year. The local New World, Grain and Seed Cafe and an anonymous donor to the purchase of chocolate eggs. To Old Cromwell Town for the use of the premises and support. To the Central Otago Farmers’ Market for the use of equipment. To the Masonic Lodge for use of their lawn, and to all the fabulous stall holders and Dr. Music for making the Old Cromwell Easter Market a successful experience for the community.
Enjoy the school holidays!
Old Cromwell Town will be a buzz on Saturday the 7th of April from 9am until 1pm with our annual Easter Market. There will be over 15 stalls featuring Farmers’ Market and Craft Stalls. There will be eclectic music by our local artists, Dr. Music. The Cromwell Community Toy Library will also have their “for hire” bouncy castle to play on and ride on toys for the wee kiddies. We look forward to a fun day. See you there!!
The Cavalcade came thru Old Cromwell Town yesterday en-route to the Cromwell Race Course. It was a real treat seeing the restored coach pulled by 4 large Clydesdales out front of our heritage buildings.
The last time the horses came thru was 98′. We’ll have to be patient for the next photo opportunity to come along here in Old Cromwell Town.
This year, Cromwell is hosting the annual Cavalcade. The Cavalcade is an event that take participants on the trails and treks taken by the people of the gold rush.
The Cavalcade will be traveling thru the Old Cromwell Town Heritage Precinct on the 25th of February, 2012 from 10am until 11am.
Please visit the Cavalcade website for more details about this amazing annual event: www.cavalcade.co.nz
Hello! Not many of us down here in Old Cromwell Town are familiar with the world wide web, so we have entrusted this blog to a new character to hopefully make it more user friendly and attractive to potential viewers and followers.
Please be patient and we will hopefully get there soon! In the mean time, if you should want to contact a local business, please contact them directly rather than leaving comments, as they are not always available for reply.
Thank you for your support.
